Scotty's Greatest Hits: A Look Back At Rothstein's Real Cases!

Ever wonder how Scott did in court?

You'll need a PACER account but it'll be worth it I promise ya kidzzzz:

Renato Watches:

Scott filed a few cases on behalf of his buddy, Ovadia "Ovi" Levy, Scott's partner in Renato Watches.

One was a trademark case involving the "public face" of Renato Watches on ShopNBC, "Daniel Mink."

Another was a suit against a critic of Renato Watches, Howard Bernstein.

That complaint is here and is a fun read. God those watches seem dreadful (please don't sue!).

Both cases were voluntarily dismissed shortly after filing, indicating they either settled quickly or were "strike suits" and dropped after having (or not having) their intended effect.

Ultimate Cigars:

Scott represented Ultimate Cigars in a cybersquatting case that similarly ended quickly.

That, of course, was before Scott allegedly tried to trap his former client, according to what Bob Norman is reporting here.

Where are all those hush-hush sexual harassment and whistleblower cases that were bringing in all the big bucks?

Must be on Judge Marra's "secret" docket.

In other news, Richard Sharpstein drops a bombshell on Judge Stettin, you can read it (again) over at Bob Norman's blog here.

What the hail is going on in the world?

  4. Stettin is a great judge and was an equally great lawyer. Sharpstein's client Peter Halmos has tons of money and is a perpetual litigant. He has sued everyone he knows including his own brother steven. His pleadings alwas contains these type of allegations. Sharpstein should be ashamed, butt was paid a ton to repeat them.

  5. The Sharpstein angle is hard to accept. I have appeared numerous times in front of Stettin in court, used him as both a mediator and arbitrator and have to say he is probably the best mediator out there and among the top tier in judging. Why Richard is hitching his wagon to this train ride is disturbing. If it is the money, then shame on him.

  7. "...I have appeared numerous times in front of Stettin in court, used him as both a mediator and arbitrator..."

This post perfectly illustrates the point Sharpstein and Halmos are trying to make: Stettin taking money through his law firm for arbitration/mediation from the same lawyers that appear in his courtroom! Furthermore, take a close look at Stettin's form 6 filings and they tell a story of a judge who knows he is doing something wrong and actively trying to hide it.

  11. Sharpie is now getting ready to call shoot the lawyers as witness number one in the refusal hearing. Let the subpoenas fly!

  14. I'm going to suggest Crystal Bernard from Wings as Ms. Rothstein in the movie?

  15. Would have to be surgically enhanced. If Rothstein had no money when they formed their partnership how could Stu not know?

  16. I'm worried. According to the Daily Pulp, Scottie is at a "roach motel" and my poor Kimmie is in the mansion with just her bodyguard to keep her company. And you know where that's heading. A woman like the Kimster has needs. And Scottie isn't around. That damn Meatballs will snatch her up before I have the chance and it's driving me crazy.

  17. I'm with Shoot the Lawyers. Stettin is one of the best circuit judges in South Florida. He always comes up as a top mediator pick for both sides, although he's usually booked well in advance. Is that a conflict, for a senior/retired judge to be a mediator? The FSC certified the guy as a mediator -- you would think it would have come up.

Richard Sharpstein is a good guy, but, if I may make the Understatement of the Year, he's given to hyperbole. Plus this website isn't his anyway -- it's the product of some financial company named Kekst, regurgitating a single statement Sharpstein made on behalf of the oh-so-litigious Halmos.

  20. Zippy Z

Cannon 5F (1) of the judicial code clearly states that a judge shall not act as mediator/arbitrator unless expressly authorized by law or court rule. Cannon 5F(2) provides authorization for senior judges to serve as mediators but makes no mention of arbitration what so ever. So Zippy is right, a Senior Judge is not absolutely precluded from mediation work. However, can anyone point to a law or court rule that expressly authorizes Stettin’s private arbitration practice? There will be silence on this question because there isn’t such a rule (and everyone knows that comments are not rules).

Furthermore, Cannon 5F(2) imposes many restrictions/disclosure requirements on senior judges who do engage in mediation. Stettin has violated most if not all of them.

This is like the emperor has no clothes.
