SFL Friday -- Mysteries of Love Edition!

Well it's almost that time, and as I gather my windsurfing essentials my mind lingers on the Gulf Oil disaster.

Question -- why is the media fixated on whether you can see oil on the beaches?

Given the historic volume of oil released, and the length of time the oil has been gushing, isn't it a reasonable assumption that the Gulf ecosystem will be severely impacted whether or not you can anecdotally spot surface oil off the shoreline?

Still, it's good to know we have assembled the right legal team:
The co-chairman of the group Gov. Crist created about a month ago to look out for the state's legal claims against BP and others was one of many lobbyists last year for the group that ambushed the Legislature with a bill to end the ban on oil drilling in state waters. Former Florida Attorney General Jim Smith also was a lobbyist for BP about a decade ago, and his son was a registered lobbyist in Tallahassee for BP last year."Hey, I'm a lawyer," Mr. Smith said in an interview Thursday, meaning that his work for the oil industry won't affect his work for the state going after the oil industry. "I'm not concerned about (a conflict)," as he leads the Oil Spill Legal Advisory Council.
"Hey, I'm a lawyer" -- well that settles it!

Don't lawyers run conflicts checks anymore?

Oh hail I'm outta here.

Before I rev up the van please remember to always dress appropriately for work, people have been writing about it for a long time, and Cameron Diaz reveals her beauty secret (hint hint -- it's also an effective diet).

Have a wet hot American weekend!

It was clear from the moment news of the flotilla attack emerged that Israel was taking extreme steps to suppress all evidence about what happened other than its own official version. They detained the flotilla passengers and barred the media from speaking with them, thus, as The NYT put it, "refusing to permit journalists access to witnesses who might contradict Israel's version of events." They detained the journalists who were on the ship for days and seized their film, video and cameras. And worst of all, the IDF -- while still refusing to disclose the full, unedited, raw footage of the incident -- quickly released an extremely edited video of their commandos landing on the ship, which failed even to address, let alone refute, the claim of the passengers: that the Israelis were shooting at the ship before the commandos were on board.

Time will show yet again Israel’s actions to be pre-mediated and violent. The fact that some people would want us to suspend our respect and tolerance for human rights and aid conveys – to this point, shows yet again that Israel is repeatedly excused until the very concept of international law is called in question, and disintegrating. As Israelis inside Israel are saying, first they’ll come for the aid conveys and then they’ll come for everyone else. By allowing Israel to get away with this behavior is to send signals to other countries that it is, indeed, alright to massacre aid conveys in international waters.

BTW Hey Latina-- Im willing to put on twenty pounds if you are willing to get me back in shape.

Caution thread killing comment below-

One of the first things they did when they landed on the ship, guns blazing, was to shut down the reports of news people on board the ship, in other words suppress the press just as they do in Gaza and every where else where they are intent on committing war crimes and getting away with them.

Israel's latest spin is that yes, it is true that the passengers were unarmed (they had been scanned by metal detectors before being allowed to board the ship) but that the big bad unarmed civilians managed to overpower Israel's crack commandos and take their guns away from them. I hear Joe Biden is doing his best to promote the Israeli spin. It won't work Joe.

Friday "health" comment below-

I have an itch located in my lower region. Want to scratch it my Latina? In exchange I will swap you "The Beginners Guide To Using A Hookah" also available in eight track.

Israel? Flotilla attack? The JBB commenters are moving in. In other words-

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

SFL find any bargains at the flea market?

In regard to the notion that “Israel’s spin won’t work this time,” Israel’s spin always works–because the US government and the mainstream media invariably support it.

Ironic. I wonder how that last name is pronounced?
