Friday's post got me thinking about how far our country's political pendulum has swung to the right and few things illustrate that so clearly as a little comparison/contrast between Obama's policies on birth control and those of President Nixon.
"It is clear that the domestic family planning services supported by the Federal Government should be expanded and better integrated. It is my view that no American woman should be denied access to family planning assistance because of her economic condition."
Richard NixonNow compare that with President Obama's approach of mandating that coverage via the conservative soft porn known as the private sector. Both leaders are rationally moving towards the same goal. Limiting unwanted pregnancies makes sense fiscally and it has the added benefit of being the right thing to do. But Nixon's approach was clearly to the left of Obama's.
