Is Tunsil's Stepfather's Lawsuit Legal Jiu-Jitsu?

I'm fascinated by the legal machinations behind new Dolphin Laremy Tunsil and his stepfather's lawsuit accusing the former Ole Miss lineman of "intentional infliction of emotional distress":
“The timing of the lawsuit is transparent while simultaneously counterintuitive. The photo is obviously meant to hurt his draft status and seems to have had the desired effect,” Steven Farese, Tunsil’s lawyer, told USA TODAY Sports on Thursday. “I am saddened by the viciousness of both acts and disappointed that jealousy and greed are so prevalent in today's society.”
Could the lawyer for the stepdad be playing a "transparent" yet "simultaneously counterintuitive" game?

Harsh, but his larger point is tough to argue with nowadays.
