Hi folks, did you miss me? Sorry, but my New Years Eve party ran long. I had a nice update on Florida's medical marijuana program to give you today, but that will have to wait.
Apparently, our national house is on fire. So this is my 'alternative' blog post.
This is an emergency. What Jon Stewart once described as "Bullshit Mountain" is now erupting like Krakatoa. We used to have "lies." Now we have "alternative facts."
Sean Spicer's assertion that "this was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period," is simply untrue. More to the point, Spicer contradicted himself within the span of two sentences. Immediately after saying that "no one had numbers, because the National Park Service, which controls the National Mall, does not put any out," he firmly claimed that Trump's inauguration had "the largest audience" ever.
According to NBC, "crowd size experts told the New York Times they estimated Trump's audience at fewer than 200,000 people, and widely distributed side-by-side photographs showed the stark contrast between the comparatively sparse crowd for Trump's inauguration and the record-setting crowd for Obama's first." The New York Times piece regarding crowd size is comprehensive and, more importantly, its estimates are photographically evident.
While an overzealous media is certainly a problem, the constant lies from the Trump administration present a much larger problem. A quote from George Orwell's 1984 explains what the Trump administration is doing:
"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command. His heart sank as he thought of the enormous power arrayed against him, the ease with which any Party intellectual would overthrow him in debate..."
So size does matter, but objective reality no longer exists. This bullshit threatens a new Dark Age.
Also, cigarettes no longer kill. Isn't that great!
Take this 'alternative fact' meme here. Madonna threatened to blow up the White House, oh the horror! Only, my poor, pathetic, hyperventilating snowflakes - she did no such thing. Her speech was provocative, but provocative is the Madonna brand. The point of her speech was that we need a revolution of love, not violence and the speech ended with the repetitious chant "I choose love. I choose love." So of course Madonna should be thrown in jail forever.
That actual fact won't make it into the information bubble that now surrounds the 'lower case kkk' i.e. the Alt Right.
Truth is dying. Does anybody know alternative CPR?
