And We Won! *updated

You'll have to excuse me, I'm a little giddy at the moment.

The court is aware that the majority of voters oppose same-sex marriage, but it is our country’s proud history to protect the rights of the individual, the rights of the unpopular and rights of the powerless, even at the cost of offending the majority,” Garcia wrote in his opinion, released about 1 p.m. Thursday.
Maybe someone should let the judge know that recent opinion polls show support for marriage equality throughout Florida now stands at 56%?

In the end all the XXX porography the Liberty Counsel threw at this case was for not.
Monroe plaintiffs’ co-counsel Elena Vigil-Fariñas told Garcia that Staver’s legal argument — which included a graphic written description of heterosexual and homosexual sex acts — “embarrassed” her.
“I’m embarrassed to have a member of the bar write something like this as an excuse to support the bigotry of the voters of Florida,” Vigil-Fariñas said. “Because in his mind, this court should allow mob rule. If the majority — the one that has the most money, the one that has the most position — don’t like a certain segment of society like our friends over here, they get to rule. And you don’t get to even evaluate whether it’s even constitutional.”

Obviously there is much more to come but we should all take a hint at where this is going from a little mentioned decision by that big liberal Samuel Alito when he denied a stay on gay marriages in Pennsylvania

Equality Florida is holding some decision day gatherings for those who might want to attend.

Marriage shouldn't be a political issue. Marriage is about people in love trying to go about their own lives. This was only made an issue by those trying to deny people like myself and my husband the basic, fundamental right to be a family. They will not succeed.

Update from Equality Florida:
Pam Bondi has appealed Judge Garcia's decision that found Florida's marriage ban unconstitutional. While Judge Garcia had delayed the date when marriage licenses could be sought to July 22nd, it is expected that Bondi will seek a stay to prevent ANY weddings from taking place.

  1. What a beautiful day. I hope the Miami-Dade Circuit Court follows shortly behind in issuing a similar opinion.

  2. Bravo for Florida!

  3. Pam Bondi has nothing better to do than pander....?

  4. She is not programmed with common sense or compassion.
